Welcome

If you came to browse, please be our guest. If you came looking for a collaborative, interactive, and innovative tool for getting and sharing answers and solutions for yours and your colleagues' reporting needs, you have found the place. The shared vision for this Wiki is that it become the focal point and launch pad for all information and knowledge relating to the reporting needs of the WSU report users' community.
Simply, a Wiki is a knowledge management system. However, unlike a typical web site, it is NOT static. On the contrary, it is an extremely interactive and collaborative web-based information environment. More importantly, it is an open, shared system of adding, sharing, editing, and discussing information.
A Wiki provides users with four interfaces into the knowledge contained within the Wiki:
  • You can browse or search for information about specific topics.
  • You can become involved with discussion groups regarding specific topics.
  • You can collaborate with colleagues to jointly produce topic content.
  • You can post your own content that you want to share with your others.
If you would like to create a user account which will enable all user functionality, click here to open a step-by-step guide for creating your account.

"We hold these truths to be self-evident..."

There are several basic truths that you should become familiar with before continuing with this Wiki. Understanding them will help frame the intent of this Wiki:
  1. This site is the property of all Wayne State professionals who require report data to conduct business, make decisions, and communicate status to others. You, therefore, are a stakeholder. The usefulness and effectiveness of this Wiki is dependent on the contributions of its stakeholders.
  2. For the most part, participation in the Wiki is voluntary. (Some key contributors, may have volunteered the old-fashioned-army way!)
  3. This Wiki cuts across all organizational boundaries. How you run a report in the School of Medicine is the same as running that report in the Athletic Department, or the College of Education, or the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, etc. When we all run the same Standard Certified Report, the data should mean the same thing to all of us.
  4. This site is under construction. It is in its infancy. How quickly it reaches maturity is a direct corollary to the contributive efforts of its stakeholders.
  5. The information you are looking for may not currently reside in this Wiki. However, if you communicate your needs to your fellow stakeholders, we can collectively respond to your issues and make the information available not only to you, but to every report user (stakeholder) who uses this Wiki. You, in turn, will have your chance to respond to a Call for Collaboration when you possess knowledge that other report users do not.
  6. The success of this Wiki is a stakeholder-shared responsibility.

Sample Report KnowledgePage

Every Standard Certified Report and Departmental Shareable Report (as listed in Cognos ReportNet) has it own KnowledgePage in this Wiki. By clicking on this link, HR008A - FMLA, you can view a sample KnowledgePage for this particular Human Resource report. If you wish to return to this page, click the E-report Wiki portion of the navigation path, "< Main Page | E-report Wiki | Human Resource Reports," that appears towards the top-left corner of the page.
To provide organization and consistency to the KnowledgePages, a boilerplate outline and placeholder text was inserted into each page. Contributors are encouraged to over-type the placeholder text with the appropriate information (See Contributor's Guidelines and Tips to begin contributing).

Finding A Specific Report KnowledgePage

You can check the availability of content for a specific report by entering a portion of the report name, e.g., STEN002, into the SEARCH box located in the left margin of this or any page in this Wiki. Click GO and select the appropriate link under "Article title matches" on the search results page.
If the KnowledgePage contains the generic placeholder text, it simply means our colleagues with the information have not made it to that page yet. If you would like email notification when the content has been added to that particular page, click the WATCH tab located at the top of that page. If you would like to be notified if any discussion is occurring regarding that report, click the DISCUSSION tab and then click the WATCH tab for the discussion page as well. You will now be notified when text is added or changed for that report.

Understanding Your E-reports

To redirect to the E-report KnowledgePage Library, click this link E-report KnowledgePage Library.
Gathering, publishing, and distributing information about E-reports is a daunting task. Conducting focus groups and holding interviews are two typical methods for gathering this type of information. However, one of the drawbacks of collect information using these techniques is that you cannot talk to everyone. What happens if the one person you overlook is the one person who has the answer. It is obviously a limitation, but has always been accepted as being unavoidable...until the introduction of the wiki.
This section of the wiki is two-fold:
  1. It is a repository of existing information about E-reports.
  2. Similar to a web chat room, it provides a venue for reports users to post questions regarding the usage and understanding of E-reports. Subject-matter experts and report power-users can post responses to the questions posted.
