A quick note about open source applications. We, as a society, are approaching life after Microsoft. More and more the notion of sole-sourcing Microsoft is coming into question. Why? Software developers are developing competitive applications at competitive prices. They can give you the feel and functionality of Microsoft at a fraction of the cost, or in many instances, free. That's right free.

Open-source application are typically free. Have you used Mozilla's Firefox Internet Browser or at least seen its logo on your desktop or Start Menu? It's free. Oh, by the way, the development platform this wiki is operating in, your guessed it, free.

Throughout this Wiki, you will find instances where we will refer to open-source computer applications as viable tools for working in a Wiki. Obviously, we cannot warrant the use of open-source applications. However, we will never refer to an open-source application that we have not personally used and tested.
